Advanced Therapeutic Exercise
Therapeutic exercises are highly selective physical activities that will be assigned by your physical therapist or chiropractor in order to restore and maintain strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, mobility, balance, and stability. The exercises assigned will be based on each individual patient’s diagnosis, assessment, and goals. The goal of these exercises is to help return a patient to their pre-injury state pain-free.
Manual therapy is the skilled passive or assistive movement of joints and soft tissue by your physical therapist or chiropractor. Our staff is credentialed in the top manual therapy techniques including GrastonTM, Active Release TechniqueTM, cupping, joint mobilization/manipulation, soft tissue massage, myofascial release, and muscle energy techniques. These techniques are essential to reduce pain, improve range of motion and function, reduce inflammation and muscle tension, and facilitate movement.
Our practitioners are credentialed with the only personal training certification that requires a 4-year Bachelor’s degree. As Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists, we are able to take our patients from injury back to competing at the highest level. We also boast two of the only TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Certified Experts in physical therapy in Miami-Dade County for Golf Rehabilitation.
USA Sports Therapy was the first to have an Alter-G Anti-Gravity Treadmill in our Aventura location. It uses air pressure to unweight athletes to allow them to start rehab and progress quicker. It can allow an individual an 80% reduction in body weight which we can use to systematically improve outcomes while not worrying about re-injury.
With many conditions, our outcomes are enhanced by utilizing specially-designed non-surgical devices known as “therapeutic modalities.” These devices may be as simple as an ice pack or heating pad, or as complex as electric stimulation, ultrasound, and iontophoresis systems. These modalities are used to manage pain, improve circulation, promote tissue mobility, and re-educate muscles. We are also a licensed distributor of the H-wave device, which is used by many sports teams and athletes to improve circulation and fluid shifts to decrease inflammation and pain.
Acupuncture has its origins in ancient Chinese Medicine and involves placing needles at certain points, mostly found along meridian lines. These lines represent organs of the body and mechanism of treatment is based on the concept of balancing the energy force within the body. It can be used for chronic pain as well as underlying systemic issues.
Dry needling is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of muscular pain and myofascial dysfunction. It is a newer technique and is effective to rid muscles of trigger points (tight painful knots) which are believed to cause dysfunction and pain.
In the past decade, the demands professional and recreational athletes have been putting on their bodies continues to rise and therefore so has the rate of injury. It is imperative to have better and faster treatments that will improve healing time and decrease chance of re-injury. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) is the therapeutic administration of 100% oxygen at pressures higher than 1 absolute atmosphere (ATA), which allows the body to get the oxygen it needs to create ATP for energy and flush out the lactic acid that causes muscle fatigue.
Blood Flow Restriction Therapy
A problem in our profession is that in order to increase muscle size and strength, it is well established that you need to overload muscle tissue to stimulate growth. However, a lot of our patients, either due to injury or pain, cannot tolerate the loads necessary to gain muscle strength. But using a new concept called Blood Flow Restriction Therapy, we are able to get similar gains without as much resistance. By occluding some the arterial blood flow, we can use light resistance to build the same amount of strength without being worried about re-injury.
There has been a lot of recent research and press about the dangers of concussions and their long-term effects. Post-Concussion Syndrome can result after a single incident and recent research shows that rehabilitation is a way to combat life-changing ramifications. Here at USA Sports Therapy, our physical therapists do specialized concussion rehabilitation focused on headaches, balance disturbances, dizziness, and memory.
